1. Our carpet is the original from when the house was built. Is it even worth cleaning at this point?

   Often yes, and it's worth finding out before you spend on replacement. A lot of Simi Valley homes are long-tenure, one-owner tracts from the 60s through the 80s with the original cut pile still down. Two different things get confused: soil and wear. Soil comes out. Wear does not. If the pile in the hallway is matted flat and the yarn tips look frayed, cleaning will make it look cleaner but it will still look worn. If the fiber is intact and the carpet just looks dull and gray, cleaning usually brings back more than people expect. We'll tell you which one you have before we start, and we'd rather say "replace it" than take your money for a job that won't satisfy you.

2. What causes the dark lanes down our hallway when the rest of the carpet looks fine?

   Two things, and around here they work together. First, the sandy soil and decomposed granite off the Santa Susana and Simi Hills is abrasive, and it gets walked in and ground into the base of the pile in the traffic paths. Second, cut pile in a hallway takes the same footsteps in the same eighteen inches for years, so the yarn lays over and reflects light differently. We can pull a lot of that grit out with hot water extraction, and that usually lifts most of the darkness. What's left is the pile itself lying down, and that's permanent. On a single-story ranch layout where every bedroom feeds off one hall, this is the most common thing we're called about.

3. The worst spot is right where we come in from the garage. Can that be fixed?

   That entry is usually the dirtiest few feet in a Simi Valley house. People come in from the garage after working on the RV or the boat, or straight off the driveway, and everything sandy on their shoes lands in that one transition. It's also where slab construction shows up, since there's no crawlspace airflow under the carpet and the soil just sits in the fiber. We pre-treat that area separately, agitate it, and extract it more than once instead of treating it like the rest of the room. If it's been going on for years it may not come all the way back to the color of the adjoining bedroom, and we'll say so when we look at it.

4. How fast can you get out here, and do you do same-day?

   Simi Valley is a compact service area for us, so we can usually get a truck to you within a couple of days. Same-day does happen when we have a cancellation or a job finishes early. If it's a spill or a pet accident, call anyway rather than waiting for a normal appointment slot, because fresh is much easier than set. If you're on a schedule around a move-in, a walkthrough, or family coming to stay, tell us the deadline when you book and we'll work backward from it. Low humidity here means carpet comes back to use quickly, which gives us more flexibility on same-day than we'd have in a damper climate.
