Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Thousand Oaks, CA
Common questions from homeowners in Thousand Oaks and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.
How long will my carpet stay damp, and when can I walk on it again?
Most rooms in Thousand Oaks are dry in four to six hours. Low humidity works in your favor here, and we run air movers on the damp spots before we leave. You can walk on it in socks right away. Hold off on putting heavy furniture back on the pile until it is fully dry, usually by that evening.

Walk me through what actually happens during the appointment.
We look at the carpet first, note the fiber type and the traffic lanes, and confirm the quote with you. Then we dry vacuum, because the real problem in the Conejo Valley is fine dry grit sitting deep in the pile. After that we pre-spray, agitate the lanes and spots, and extract with hot water. We groom the pile, set fans where needed, and walk the rooms with you before we pack up.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: which one do I need?
Hot-water extraction is what we use on the large majority of jobs. It flushes soil out of the pile rather than moving it around, and it is what Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster warranties generally call for. Shampooing has a place on heavily soiled commercial-grade loop carpet where agitation matters more than rinse. Low-moisture dry cleaning is for wool and delicate blends like some Masland and Karastan goods, or an office floor that has to be back in service in an hour. We tell you which one applies and why before we start.

Realistically, how often should this be done?
Every twelve months covers a typical household. Push it to every six to nine months if you have pets, kids, or a house that catches the sundowner and Santa Ana winds. Those winds drive dust and fine dry soil straight through screens and door gaps, and that grit cuts fibers every time someone walks across it. After a smoke or ash event from the chaparral interface, clean sooner regardless of the calendar.

What determines the price?
Square footage and room count carry the most weight. After that: how soiled the carpet is, stairs, pet treatment, fiber type, and whether we are moving furniture. Estimates are free, and we give you a firm quote before any equipment comes off the truck. If we find something during the walkthrough that changes the scope, we stop and tell you first.

Will the crew shift my furniture, or should I clear the rooms myself?
We handle sofas, chairs, coffee tables and dining sets, and we set them back on blocks or tabs so damp pile does not stain. Beds, pianos, entertainment centers and anything with electronics stay put, and we clean around them. Most two-story tract homes here have a lot of furniture in the great room, so tell us on the phone and we will plan for it. Clearing small items like toys, floor lamps and plant pots ahead of time speeds everything up.

What stains come out, and what is permanent?
Traffic lanes, food and drink spills, mud, general soil and most pet accidents come out. Grease and oil usually respond if they have not been ground in for years. What we cannot promise: bleach, benzoyl peroxide from acne products, some dye transfer from rubber-backed mats, and old pet urine that reached the pad on slab-on-grade construction. We will tell you straight during the estimate which category your spot falls into instead of guessing after the fact.

Are the products safe with a dog and a toddler in the house?
Yes. The solutions we use are pH-balanced and rinse out with the extraction, so nothing tacky is left behind for bare feet or paws to pick up. Keep pets and small kids out of the room while we work, mostly because of the hoses and the equipment. Once the carpet is dry, the room is normal again. If anyone in the house has allergies or sensitivities, say so and we will switch to a fragrance-free option.

Can you clean upholstery, area rugs and tile too?
We do all three. Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses get cleaned in place with the method the fabric calls for. Area rugs we clean on site when the construction allows, or take them out for a proper wash when they are wool or hand-knotted. Tile and grout in kitchens, entries and baths gets pressure-cleaned and extracted, with sealing available afterward. Bundling rooms and hard surfaces into one visit is usually the cheaper way to go.

Can you come out today, and how far do you travel?
Same-day slots open up often, especially mid-morning and early afternoon. Call early and we will tell you honestly what is left on the schedule instead of stringing you along. We cover Thousand Oaks and the wider Conejo Valley, including Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills, plus the rest of Ventura County. That includes the 1990s–2000s hillside subdivisions where access and parking take a little extra planning.
